Fall Cruise (10/03/2026)

Fall Cruise
October 3-4, 2026

This year's fall cruise is scheduled to rendezvous at the Port of Kingston marina on October 3rd.

The dockmaster informed me that the best strategy is for individuals to give them a call and reserve a slip. At this time there are plenty available. However, sometimes another group will decide to come in so calling them soon is a good idea. Their number is (360) 297-3545.

We had a great time at the Brass Kraken in Poulsbo this last spring, and this time we are going to meet at the Filling Station up the street from the marina. It's a pub and restaurant with plenty of room, good food and drink, and reasonable prices.

If you can't get your sails up, drive over and meet us. Let's figure on meeting at the Filling Station at 6:00.

Questions can be directed to Scott Sprague.

Salty Speaker: Orcas of the Salish Sea - Our Neighbors Beneath the Waves (10/16/2026)

What does a killer whale's family have in common with yours? Do orcas really wear salmon hats? How many different kinds of orcas occur here? Orcas of the Salish Sea: Our Neighbors Beneath the Waves explores orca presence and behavior in the inland waters of the Salish Sea. Take a look at some of the more intriguing and lesser known behaviors exhibited by these compelling creatures, understand the threats to the endangered Southern Resident Killer Whale population and recovery efforts on their behalf, and get some tips for being a good neighbor to our neighbors beneath the waves. The program lasts about 40 minutes plus Q&A time.

Stephanie Raymond is a lifelong resident of the Salish Sea region and passionate about sharing its wonders with others. Her early career as an environmental educator included non-profit work, formal and informal outdoor education, classroom teaching, curriculum development and advocacy work. She has studied forest, riparian, estuarine, nearshore and marine ecology, as well as local ethnobotany. She holds a degree from the University of Washington in Social Issues and the Environment, joining her curiosity about the natural world with her fascination for how humans interact with it. Stephanie spent thirteen years as the lead naturalist for Victoria Clipper’s whale and marine life tours, discovering in that time that she is also a sailor at heart. When not actively searching for whales, Stephanie enjoys camping, hiking, gardening, and exploring local waters via kayak, canoe and sailboat. Stephanie is currently Co-Executive Director Programs for Orca Network, a non-profit dedicated to connecting people with whales of the Pacific Northwest.

About Orca Network:

Orca Network has been connecting people with whales of the Pacific Northwest for 25 years. We are dedicated to helping people understand the importance of conserving and restoring habitat to recover the Southern Resident Orca population and sustain populations of Biggs orcas, humpback whales, and gray whales that use the inland waters of the Salish Sea. Founded in 1991 by Howard Garrett and Susan Berta of Whidbey Island, the organization has grown from a small group of friends and volunteers to a staff of nineteen who educate the public and monitor whale sightings around the region seven days a week.

To help fill Santa's brunch table, please bring a dish based on your last name:

A–G: A sweet breakfast treat

H–R: A savory breakfast treat

S–Z: A fruity breakfast treat

See you there — and don't forget to leave room on your plate (and in your heart) for Christmas magic! ⛵❄️
