This Thursday's race was held in gorgeous weather. Nine boats showed up, with many "over crewed".  The boats in order of finish were:  Ace, Wood n Wind, Intuition, Bravo,  Hyphen, Smilin Jack, Skye, Araminta, and Whistler.

The race committee were Zac Cooper and Dillon, Jim Llewellyn's crew for Solace. They did his RC duties while Jim is away in England. They set a perfect  windward, reach, run course, starting at Halvorsen's, going first to Miller bay, then Indianola, then home the finish at Halvorsen's. The race lasted short of one hour for the fast boats, and about an hour and a half for the slower boats. Corrected times will be posted later.

There were many Juniors aboard boats, and many Jr Juniors. The Thursday series looks to have a good start for a stellar season. Of note was the fine performance of Bill Walker's Skye, and Nick Paradis's Araminta which showed remarkable ability up wind, but sailing without a spinnakers were hindered downwind. New sails on the horizon??

Our keel boat weekly sailing series began last Thursday, May 2nd.  This is a great opportunity to get your boat out and have fun racing around the buoys on Port Madison.  We have decided to have the start at 6:30 this year so there is  a bit more time to complete the races before the usual wind shut down.  Afterwards, we can fire up the BBQ and enjoy the warming spring evenings.  The first series is May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. The second is June 6, 13, and 20 and the third is July 11, 18, 25 and Aug 1.

These are fun races with all abilities welcome.  If you are interested in helping with the Race Committee,  Pat Mitchell and Andy Parker are leading a training session on Wednesday night, May 1, at the club at 7 pm.

Get Out The Boat!  Come Join us!!  No boat but want to crew?  We'll get you aboard.  Questions?  Contact Bill Walker

6 boats (4 V15s and 2 Lasers) went out for first night of Friday night dinghy racing—including Lea who was great light air model sailor for Peter Hall in his Laser! 5 of other sailors were from women’s group. Peter Corelis took new member Janice Pedersen on his V15, and Allan Hugler took Janice’s husband Ollie out on a rental. Molly O’Hara and Sarah Hall also used a rental. I took out new member Stacy Austin. Flooding current was stronger than wind and only race was called when last bit if breeze disappeared but we all had fun! Keith Butler and Annemarie Kimball served as RC on their Shamrock with Rusty, Robin Charters, and two happy dogs since Howard’s gone and whaler was swamped with too little time to bail.

Greetings, and welcome to the 2019 Friday night sailing racing series! Looking outside about a half hour ago, I was wishing it was Friday night already!

Who's coming out to race this week?  Goal is to launch boats by 6 - if not earlier.  The more the merrier, and bring snacks and/or beverages to share post-race if you like.

I'm hoping we get a great turnout and as you may have seen in the mainsheet, I'm hoping we can increase participation this year by welcoming new and 'non-racers' too - everybody's got to start somewhere!

    Cheers!

    Molly O'Hara

Larry Witty suggested that we move the Blake Island Shrimp Cruise to the weekend of May 11 & 12 because the shrimp season opens that weekend this year.

Everyone update your calendars.  Hope to see you there.
