PMYC Commodore’s Challenge

The 2026 Commodore’s Challenge is a 500 meter speed run supported by your GPS data. Measure speed over the ground. Fastest speed wins. Do it anywhere on Puget Sound. Do it during another race if you want. Make as many runs as you like. Multiple runs are encouraged if you get a really nice windy day. Two divisions: open and corrected with your PHRF handicap. Any wind powered contraption is eligible for the open division. Current PHRF rating is required for the handicap division. Stay away from commercial traffic.

Sailing Instructions

Overview: The 2026 PMYC Commodore’s Challenge is presented to the member who facilitates the most novice sailors’ experiences on the water.

RULES: For the purpose of this challenge, the definition of “novice” shall be “sailors who require explicit instruction.” Sailors new to Port Madison (still learning the harbor) would qualify, as would crew new to your boat, or (obviously) beginning sailors of any age. Multiple outings with new sailors qualify as separate “experiences.” When you deem your novice no longer requiring explicit instruction, you can claim 5 extra points.

ELIGIBILITY: The skipper must be a PMYC member, sailing any boat in Port Madison.

LOG: Please keep a log of names and dates of new sailors you brought out on the water and when/if they “graduate” from novice to “no longer needing explicit instruction.”

SUBMITTING DATA: In October, send an email to the Commodore with your log.

PHOTOS: While photos are not required, it would be a lot of fun if the rest of PMYC can see your crew. Send them along to the Commodore and/or the Publishing Committee.

If more information is needed please contact Katie Jennings at commodore@portmadisonyc.org.
